Montmartre

Montmartre

Contemporary Montmartre is maybe not the bohemian meeting place it once was when artists such as Salvador Dalí, Amedeo Modigliani, Claude Monet, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh had studios or worked around here, but for a visitor in search of inspiration it still has it’s surprises. I spent last weekend in a very cute apartment in Montmartre, feeling very Amelie Poulain, photographing, writing, having lunch in a brasserie and searching the marché au puce ( flea market) for treasures. The African immigrants are a big part of Montmartre’s population and their colourful “Dutch wax” dresses made of Vlisco fabric are worth a painting or two!
